Sculpture in the rock: Lady of the Shepherds/OURS LADY Of the GOOD STAR.

Workmanship sculptured in years 40.Image of Ours Lady who represent the protection of the shepherds who went up the mountain range to give grass to the flock of sheep.

***Serra da Estrela (English: Mountain range of the Star) is the highest mountain range in Portugal and includes mainland Portugal's highest peak (Pico mountain in the Portuguese Azores islands is higher), which has a natural altitude of 1993 m (around 6541 feet). However, in 1716 - 1726 the Portuguese king João V ordered the construction of a 7 m tall tower so that the peak could reach 2000 m. The location of this tower is known as "Torre" ("Tower", literally translated).
The mountain range is about 100 km long and is 30 km at its widest point. It is formed from a huge granite ridge that once formed the southern frontier of the country. Due to its bizarrely shaped crags and gorges, mountain streams and lakes, beautiful forests and magnificent views, the area ranks among Portugal’s outstanding scenic attractions.

NOSSA SENHORA DA BOA ESTRELA

Serra da Estrela / Covão do Boi – obra esculpida nos anos 40. A iniciativa nasceu em 1940 "quando milhares de pessoas assistem à implantação de um Cruzeiro no ponto mais alto da Serra da Estrela, o Padre Morgadinho lança a ideia de se construir, num dos pontos mais altos da Serra, um monumento dedicado a Nossa Senhora da Boa Estrela, criou-se uma comissão, com adesão posterior de 75 freguesias; em 02.08.1942, o Professor António Esteves Lopes apresenta o desenho e o projecto em gesso, que só vem a público em 15 de Agosto de 1943 dando-se início à construção, da responsabilidade do Autor, do Escultor António Duarte e dos profissionais João Gouveia, Ângelo, Santos e Cabeleira. A inauguração foi no dia 4 de Agosto de 1946.
Escultura talhada na pedra representa, a SENHORA estende o seu manto bento aos PASTORES rebanhos que sobem a serra a buscar sustento.

Wonderful snowy rocks under a deep blue sky. The sculpture could maybe a little bit larger, but at all it is a nice shot. I like it.

Conseguiste uma foto muito bonita deste local fantástico. Gosto desta paisagem cheia de neve e sol, dos degraus cobertos de neve e com as centenas de pegadas por cima. As cores atmbém estão óptimas, muito bem conseguida!

Desconhecia este local fantástico, uma foto muito boa, apesar das condicoes de luminosidade. Gosto das cores e da definicao.
OBS: o separador entre o texto em Ingles e o texto em Portugues esta a afectar a exibicao da imagem. Se lhe retirares 2 caracteres deve ficar OK.

Good shot of this alpine scene and an interesting carving.I like the footsteps in the snow,leading the eyes to the sculpture.A sharp image with good contrast and a great contrast with the sky.

Olá Filipe, há muitos anos que não venho aqui e ainda há mais, em tempo de neve. Gosto muito do equilíbrio de brancos e pretos da rocha aqui. A luz está fantástica e a pequena porção de céu azul é muito bonita. Muito bem!

Bonjour Filipe,
j'aime cette photo pour la manière dont tu nous montres cette sculpture, en contre plongée , ce qui la rend majestueuse et inaccessible, la protégeant un quelque sorte.
L'arrière plan montagneux est superbe.
Les traces de pas nous donnent une idée des dimensions de cette oeuvre.
