Photographer’s Note
Early evening among the rocks, at Whiskey Bay.
I made the trip down to Wilson's Prom on the 25th in the hope of catching one of the last appearances of comet McNaught, which should have been visible to the southwest, the direction this beach faces. Unfortunately, as you can see, the sky was clouded out.
I'd brought down the tripod, though, and I thought I'd try to catch a few long-exposure shots of the surf as it crashed through the granite boulders that are common at The Prom.
It was still fairly light at the time of this photo, so I used the ND4 to slow things down a bit. Levels in Photoshop CS2, and the sky selectively darkened a stop or so just to add some mood. Hope you like it!

Hi Simon - I think this is very well done indeed. An eerie, misty quality to the water that works extremely well.
And great texture to the rocks as an extra bonus! Very good job.

Hi Simon. Something primordial about this shot. It's like some soup from which life is yet to emerge.Great contrast between the insubstantial look of the water and the sharp details of the rocks.Very effective PoV. Well done. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Simon,
This image looks superb. It almost looks as though one is above the clouds looking down. The water appears to be so soft. Really nice.
Cheers,
Debbie

Good point of view, with rocks on both sides. The effect of long exposure on ocean waves is very interesting.
I think you could have done one more correction in Photoshop - remove barrel distortion. Straight, rather than curved horizon would look better.

Hi Simon~~
This photo is so interesting!
Rough textures of the rock, the position of the rock, and the way the misty water moves around them.
Excellent Composition and color, great job Simon!
Thanks for sharing~ I would love to hang this picture up in my living room...haha.
And about the drought issue,
I thought Victoria's drought isn't so bad.....it's so sad to hear you guys are getting so little watter too.

Hi Simon. Bit late getting to this one, but you seemed to be having an extended hiatus there and I gave up visiting your gallery for a while. Now, of course, this one's a month and a half old and you seem to be having another break. Still, it's a terrific shot. I don't always like the blurry waterfalls that some people do, but in this case the slow shutter speed result has produced a wonderful effect of highlighting the rocks and making them look almost 3D. The scene looks almost other-worldly. I like the distant islands, but the whole thing does look a bit like a landscape above the clouds. Excellent shot.
Regards,
Andrew

I always like these sorts of photos, but what I like is how you found a small indentations in the beach. The PS adjustments worked well. The only thing that I noticed is that the horizon appears to have a slight bend, nothing to distract from the photo. Rodney

Hi Simon, this is really great. I am going to need to try one of these some day. Your long exposure makes it seem like smoke on the water. The sky may not have helped you see your comet but it works well here.
Thanks, John

Hi Simon,
This is also a very unique view on the coastline.
I really like this low POV. You created a special mood indeed by darkening the sky. it accentuates the dark granite.Nice job!

Hello Simon,
Excellent use of the ND4 filter to bring out a very striking interpretation of the sea. The composition and framing using the surrounding rocks is a nice touch. Thanks for sharing,
Jules
