Photographer’s Note
a long long journey for 40 hours in train... from Bangalore to Kolkata. This train takes the east coastal road through out Tamilnadu, AndraPradesh, Orissa and then WestBengal.
two nights and one day within the train, in this A/C compartment, you can't see much of outside landscapes but the faces of your other co-passengers.. a truly boring journey ... but nothing can be done to overcome this.
This person in the foreground had not slept last night. He was going to Assam, He learned that there were some kind of Riots in Assam by ULFA , some of the Bihari people were already evacuated from the land of Assam , He was quite worried about it.I saw him talking over mobile phone every hour.
on the other hand this little boy was so spontaneous always, always doing something very important !!! His mother was also got tired atlast...
those are the 40 hours of insomnia...

sandip,
Real close...
I remember this scene very well.
Long travels for annual leave. 10 days of leave & 4 days in travelling..
When you get down from train & go to home & sleep you still feel that you are travelling..
Nice work.

Hi Sandip,
Lovely capture of the mood inside a A/C compartment.Thats why I always prefer sleeper coach but it is understandable that when journey is of almost 40 hrs, how painful sleeper coaches can be.Nice shot.

Hey Sandip, I like the content of your shot pretty much, train journey, as well as sleeping people are fascinating photo topics. Perhaps because both are prone to dreaming.
I first had a quick glance at your title and read "A journey IN insomnia" and thought "what a f***ing awesome title!".. I was a little disappointed with that "or" instead of "in". From the obvious difficulties of getting asleep in a train, a subtitle could be "50 ways of not finding sleep".

Yes, Sandip, back to the good ol' Indian railway... Thanks for the déja vue... a fine shot, but lacking sharpness, but I understand... best, c

Yes Sandip, I think the mood is there to see..boredom, insomnia, current of undertension & yet it affects only him. The child is oblivious & is in his own natural self, the lady (i presume his wife)is at last asleep. A complex compo. no doubt where the moods are evoked very well. I'm not to sure whether the colours are important here..maybe there was light at the end of the tunnel as we see the brightness from outside the window.

PS : checked the b&w in shadowliner, which is excellent too. But I agree with you, the colour does look better
