Walls and Towers of Novodevichy Photo

Photographer’s Note

I would like to continue the series of my best pictures which I took with my clients during the Moscow By Night Tour. This picture I took recently with my client from New Zealand nearby Novodevichy convent, with the view from north-west.

Lying by a river bend on the south-western edge of old Moscow, Novodevichy is one of the city's loveliest monasteries and major spiritual centers from centuries back. The red and white crenellated walls and golden domes of Novodevichy Convent make it one of Moscow's most attractive monasteries. Novodevichy, or "New Maidens Convent" in English, was founded by Vasily III in 1524 to commemorate the recapture of Smolensk from the Lithuanians in 1514. The convent is rather like a miniature Kremlin, built as a fortress in the bend of the Moskva River, became an important component of the capital's southern defense belt which consisted of the Donskoi Monastery, the Monastery of St. Daniel, the Monastery of St. Simeon, and other cloisters. The fortress-convent played a part of some consequence in the struggle against the Tatar conquerors and the Polish invaders.

Good shot with the nice, diferent and illuminated towers ,nice framed by the brown sky and the water with nice reflections of the colord lights.

Hi Arthur,
Wonderful night shot making the best possible use of the light. You've caught the reflections exceptionally well, the colours are bold and strong and the clarity shows this highly attractive scene off at it's very best. Good inclusion of the tree on the left, it fills that corner nicely. Perfect Christmassy shot. Best New Year wishes to you.

this is an excellent night shot!I like all those monasteries in the background with a so beautiful architecture..it's a place where I want to come back..(I was there when I have ten years)..of course,amazing reflection on the water and the light very well managed makes your photo spectacular!

An immensely breath-taking shot Arthur that captures the stillness f the night in all its colour and light. You've really done so well to keep the lights in check and yet paint such a beautiful image.The refelction in the water is equally serene. Overall a very peaceful and calm shot.

I also like to take night pictures of urban landscapes.
In Moscow there is plenty of such opportunities.

Wow! This is one of your best pictures Arthur! The light on the buildings is great, showing the colour and detail well, and of course it's quite different from daylight so it has a striking appearance. Excellent!
