Bled - The Day at the Races Photo

Photographer’s Note

Miraculously, the sky is clearing above Bled on a Sunday morning in November, and rowers have entire lake for themselves. What a pleasure it must be! To get a shot from the castle you have quite narrow window from about 10AM to 11AM when the sun is shining from the left side. Autumn colors are still visible on trees, and smoke is emanating from one of the island buildings - perhaps somebody is cooking morning coffee...

This is an amazing photo. The lighting and sharpness are great. Your composition gives a 3D effect to the photo. I like the patterns formed on the water by the rowers. I like the original much better than the workshop.
This is a truly outstanding photo!!!!!

Hi Vilius,

This is a stunning image! The reflection in the water is a big bonus in this scene, and as you are mentionning, you were there at the right time to catch the best possible light. The result is really top notch.

You have certainly caught the magical moment here Vilius. The sunlight on the castle and the hill is perfect and very nicely contrasted against the background mountain. Super colours and sharpness too.

I will just pile on here and say this is just a striking and beautiful image .. the autumn colors ... your magical depth and light .. that gorgeous reflection .. the cloud creeping across the top at just the right spot .. just simple wonder.

Hello Vilius,

Your scene is dazzling my eyes. I like your aerial shot from castle that creates great wide view. Reflections are splendid on lake surface and well known castle is adding great value with its perfect position and tracks of canoes on water. I like also your differently cropped version in your workshop post but both of them can be your principle post. Congratulations.

What I like in this photo is: good cropping, all rowers go in one direction (in one line) and fabulous view.

This is just beautiful again. Even more beutiful han your prvious shots of this place. You have such a great high POV and such a unique light illuminating all the scene. The minuscule rowers give scale and add life to your picture. A great shot. Right in my favourites.

Hi Vilius,
wow! such incredible light. It's pure magic. I have made some photos of Bled island from the castle but none of them is as nice as yours. I preffer this version to the one in a WS because of the wonderful blue colour of the lake.

Hi Vilius, this is a superb shot! The composition, the colours, the sharpness are all great, but what makes it for me is the wakes from the boats, heading in opposite directions diagonaly across the lake. I think I will have to add this to my list of places to visit, too! Cheers, Colin.

It is easy to feel sick of infatuation towards this place because it touches anyone´s sensativiness and pierces right through the guts and souls as the real Beauty . I wish i could ever visit Bled ...
