Location of Phi Phi Islands
Maya Bay on Ko Phi Phi Leh
Internal lake connecting through a cave to the open sea.
The rocky coast is eaten away by the tide, shaping the islands like mushrooms.
Muslim fishing village of Panyee, built on the shallow water off Khao Panyee (Panyee Island)The Phi Phi Islands (Thai: หมู่เกาะพีพี) are located in Thailand, between the larger island of Phuket and the mainland. They are politically part of Krabi province, most of which is on the mainland, which is located at 8°02′30″N, 98°48′39″E. Phi Phi Don is located at It is located at 7°44′00″N, 98°46′00″E
Ko Phi Phi Don ("ko" (Thai: เกาะ) meaning "island" in the Thai language) is the largest island of the group, and is the only island with permanent inhabitants, although the beaches of the second largest island, Ko Phi Phi Lee (or "Ko Phi Phi Leh"), are visited by many people as well. There are no accommodation facilities on this island, but it is just a short boat ride from Ko Phi Phi Don. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Noi, and Bamboo Island, are not much more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea.
Phi Phi Don was initially populated by Muslim fishermen during the late 1940s, and later became a coconut plantation. The Thai population of Phi Phi Don remains more than 80% Muslim.
Ko Phi Phi Leh was the backdrop for the 2000 movie The Beach. Phi Phi Leh also houses the 'Viking Cave', from which there is a thriving bird's nest soup industry. There was criticism during filming of 'The Beach' that the permission granted to the film company to physically alter the environment inside Phi Phi Islands National Park was illegal. [2]
Following the release of The Beach, tourism on Phi Phi Don increased dramatically, and with it the population of the island. Many buildings were constructed without planning

I did quite enjoy The Beach and here's why, this place looks incredible, I love the bright colours and make up of the landscape, so tall, closed and raw.
The water looks gorgeous and the sand so soft. Good title, I have to say I thought of the beach before I saw the title.
very good shot.
Well captured.
Have a good day.

I went there a lon time ago, when tourism was not much developed yet, it was gorgeous. I know it changed since then but your picture shows only what did not change and it is so beautiful. Thanks.

If you found him, I hope you drowned the annoying little rat-faced cretin.
Your shot is great, and shows this amazing place in all it's glory. The composition is well balanced, and I like the inclusion of the strip of white sand at the bottom of the frame.
Good work.
Cheers,

Ciao Paolo,
Your view is amazing splendid colored bay and rock cliffs. Sea water is really unusual for me after muddy water of many rivers from Amazon in Suriname. Merging sea and sand is very nicely added your scene. Bellissimo. Congratulations.
I would like to wish you and your family a joyful and peaceful holiday season, and a prosperous New Year.
Best Regards,
