Photographer’s Note

Playing is also playing roles, like acting on a stage. This garden is a theatre, a line-up of props and backstage preparation.
The space is organized in three successive scenes, one on the courtyard side decorated with plant cans, one on the garden side planted with wild grasses, and with vegetables.
Red and yellow blooms evoke the scarlet and gold décor of baroque theatres. The plants have been chosen to attract butterflies, which symbolize the third ephemeral side of the theatre: mustard, cabbage and nasturtiums for the young caterpillars, buddleias and heliotropes for the mature butterflies.
Isn’t every garden a stage production? And the visitors/spectators, aren’t they the good or poor actors? Here, prompting is also playing a role.
