Photographer’s Note

This bright green carpet of algae is almost too bright to be a natural colour. There is not a ripple or even a slightest wave. Just inches under the surface, however, and possibly just feet away from the unsuspecting photographer's feet, aligators may be lurking, ready to pounce.

That thought suddenly lends the picture some kind of inanimate suspense. Talk about being frozen in your footsteps at the mere thought of a gator lunging out of this silky green depth at a cowering bystander...

It's not a real masterpiece, but it sure feels tense. No flash, filter or tripod. No pp, just downsized and saved. One pond.
