Photographer’s Note
Houhai, Beijing
Around the Houhai lake, one of the most trendy areas of Beijing, filled with restaurants and pubs, music and young crowds ... coal is still on.
Coal along with carbon dioxide have made Beijing one of the most polluted cities of the world.

Superb Photo Anne, very interesting face on face direct pov, the conversion didn't worked quite well imo but i still like the roughness in it's face although it seem he's smiling... maybe it's not everyday that you are beeing photographed :)

Hello Anne Marie,
Splendid illustration of the very opposite lifestyles you can find in so many countries (including China). Interestingly, it is the person working hard who is wearing a smile.
These 2 persons framing the main character are really putting him in perspective, if that was intentional it is a masterpiece of composition. Thus I agree with "everlasting" about the cropping which is maybe too tigh.
Congratulation,
Vincent

Excellent shot, Anne Marie
I like the guy smiling sight and the general dynamism of the image.
You did it with LX1 not with D200, right?
A smile for a new week.

I was wondering why you didnt decide to go for a tight crop here and just have the guy and his coal, the two other pedestrians seem to be superfluous here, but readign your title. i believe this was intentional to show the contrast of their lives.
