Photographer抯 Note
There was a festival in my neighbourhood this evening. So I grabbed my camera and went out to look for something interesting.
The balls and goldfishes becomes treasures on a festival day, just for one night. Kids values them so high that they think a festival without these items are nothing. But the balls'd get shrunk till the next morning and the goldfish'd never have a chance to live another year.
I shot 30 photos but a half of them went straight into a rubbish bin!

Hi Lauryn,

I like this one, both informative and attractive-- the blurred feet and legs hint at the fleeting interest the kids have in the balloons and fish which wares off at the end of the festival (poor fish!)

Hi Lauren,
You chose an interesting POV with the backlighting making the similar colors of the balloons and the goldfish luminescent. Is there a special significance to the red balloons and goldfish for festivals? Or is it like stuffed animals at fairs here? No real meaning, just tradition. Mking's commments about the significance of the feet are also interesting.
Regards, Pat

Hey Lauryn. An interesting framing focusing on the balloons and the fish in the plastic bag, both appearing luminous in the festive atmosphere. The legs of the person walking in the background are a good inclusion.
The photo seems a bit too dark to me overall; are you sure your monitor is calibrated well? (see the "calibration check" tool at the bottom of this page).
Take care. Seven more weeks before I'll arrive in Tokyo ...

Hi Lauryn
Nice to see a new post from you. Lovely closeup compo and despite the poor lighting you pulled a resonably good shot. Perhaps some extra PP work could bring this more to live. Nice documentary.
Cheers

Lauryn,
A very intersting shot. I love the light on the goldfish. But i agree with Nobert its underexposed. A fascinating look at a Japanese festival though.
Cheers

Hello!
Very nice picture indeed. You achieved to capture a very fragile and difficult light. Balls and fishes are sharp, which is a good performance given the context. Maybe a bit dark, but excellent.

Quite a beautiful, subtle, suggestive picture. Production values and PP processing could be better (Uas usual ;o)), but there is defintely something here, something real and sweet and touching.
Well seen, Lauryn!

Hello lauryn. An interesting picture, which is determined particularly by its red-bright objects. Only on the second view one sees the fish. The photo is formally very beautifully divided and composed. Great. Greeting, Wolfgang.
