Photographer’s Note

This is a side-street in Sidi bou Said, an affluent suburb of Tunis. Although the "main drag" that the tourist coaches make for is of course made up of sovenir stalls, there are also some small ethnographic museums worth visiting - and, if you keep your eyes open, little gems like this.

Note that I have deliberately NOT altered the levels to whiten the walls at the left and right, as they were originally in shadow. Specifically, I wanted to capture how the narrow streets are intentionally laid out to make lives more pleasant by creating shade and reducing direct light.

Taken around noon, using a Dimage Z20 with no filters except UV and no flash or tripod.
