Photographer’s Note

Continuing my occasional Signposts series:

Saw this signpost while visiting Balbriggan harbour recently. While I do not approve of graffitti, I thought at least this one was funny! In the background is the local Martello Tower, a defensive fortification common along the east coast of Ireland, which dates from the 1800's.

PP: cropped, increased contrast, added some saturation in Picasa. Resized and framed in Photoshop.

Hmmmm great idea, and very informative sign I must add. :)

Composition looks good, the sign has a nice placing and really catches the eye.
Your note works well too, the tower in the background isn't the most obvious thing in the photo but your note points it out and really puts a more serious element to it all.

Hi Tim, that just made me laugh out loud! Is this telling us something of what goes on in the 'briggan? (My sister is a local resident, maybe I should let he know!). It's very clever, and nicely placed in the shot against the Martello Tower in the background.

Very funny. Beautiful background. And impressive clouds.
The message is so clear though that you could have shown the sign a bit smaller by taking a couple of steps back.

It is indeed a funny image, one that brought a smile to my face and will be the image that will bring my day to a close.I'm also in the opinion that graffiti is not a positive thing but sometimes you just have to bow to the imagination of these people.I can see from the image that you still gave a thought to composition.Had a bit of a look at your gallery....nice.Have a good weekend.

Hey Tim,
at least you found the "artwork" of some polite sprayers since they added a "thanks"...
You composed the picture nicely by stepping away a few steps from the sign and including the fortification, not a straight-on view of the sign.
I wonder which movie these guys watched before spraying this because it's kind of an clichée occuring in several films to dump bodies into the harbour.
