Hi TE friends. This is the first picture from a series from Pindos mountain range. I had visited the place last June 2006.

Greek Pindos mountain range extends from the borders of Albania and F.Y.R.O.M. through the provinces of northern Greece ending to Sterea Ellada (Central Greece). The highest peak of the Pindos range is Mt. Smolikas (2637 m) which is the second highest peak of Greece after Mt. Olympos (2917 m). Other mountains of northern Pindos are: Mt. Grammos, Mt. Tymfi, Mt. Zigos, Mt. Vasilitsa, Mt. Flega and many other peaks higher the 2000m altitude.

Pindos mountain range is divided to North Pindos and South Pindos. The divider is the Pass of Katara which is located beside Metsovo-city. Katara Pass is the highest paved road section in Greece.

We are more or less concentrating on the North Pindos mountains since they are more accessible for trekkers than the South Pindos and the routes are marked generally better than in the South Pindos.

Pindos mountain range is an extension of the Dynaric Alps (in the former Yugoslavia) which, in turn, are an extension of the main Alps. Pindos mountain range forms a bowl that continues through Greece and in the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea to emerge in Crete island and finally in Turkey as Taurus mountains.
