Photographer’s Note

The red tower in front is my favourite. Usually people don't notice it as it is located right in a shopping passage. This is the view from the city hall square. The tower is part of a huge building from 1847 built by Alexis de Chateauneuf in the style of the tuscan Renaissance. Until 1887 the post used this building, afterwards it was used for administrative purposes, now it is part of that shopping passage mentioned above. In the beginning the tower was used for an optical telegraph to Cuxhaven, later for the electric telegraph.

In the background you see the "new" Heinrich Hertz TV Tower from 1968 (one of the big landmarks of Hamburg) which was erected for the post (again). Height 280 meters, with a restaurant platform which turns 360 degrees per hour in a height of 130 meter giving a perfect view over the city.

Postprocessing in PS6: Autolevels, slight cropping, contrast masking and unsharp mask.
