Photographer’s Note

- says the slogan. It suites well to the monument of the great futurist poet Vladimir Mayakovsky.

Slogans, slogans, and still slogans... I remember the times, when this Triumfalnaya place was Mayakovsky place, and to the left from the statue on the top of the building dominated huge permanent slogan: "Let’s make up Moscow as an exemplary communist city!"

Yes, many things have changed. Names of places, slightly slogans. Semantics remains the same, but the meaning is different - now it is an ad, not a propaganda. Also the drinkers look much better than some time ago, they drink beer, not necessarilly vodka, and they obviously enjoy their freedom to stand next to the monument on the very central Moscow place and drink, and they must not hide somewhere in a doorway.

Changes here are good as such, and I have good reasons to consider them more substantial. What is their direction from the longer-term perspective, we will see. But I strongly believe they are positive. And this is something I would like to show in my pictures. If it would be a false guess, it ought to be visible.
