Sea of Minas Photo

Photographer’s Note

This shot was taken at the Furnas Lake, one of the biggest man-made lake of the World. It has an area of almost 1500 Km2, expanding over 34 counties. The state of Minas Gerais doesn't have a sea coast and then, this is considered for many, the "Sea of Minas". It was opened in 1963 to run an hydroelectric power plant, and was the largest of its kind in Brazil at that time. Nowadays, the lake is surrounded by beautiful mansions and majestic hotels.

The overwhelming colour of the water is impressive here. I also like the way the colour of the water contrasts with the landscape and mountains in the distance. The detail is good and the water patterns from the boats are a nice feature too. Good exposure and a spectacular POV.

Very nice view Ricardo...especially the green protrusion into the lake from the right. The water lines of the boats are interesting. Good panoramic shot here

Esta foto é um dos exemplos do que eu gosto no TE: descobrir coisas inesperadas. Quem diria que Minas tem um mar de 1500 km2!
Gosto da composição. Dá a noção que o lago se expande para vários lados.

It's an impressive lake seen from here and you got a very attractive image, again taken from an excellent POV. That blue is lovely and it's very nice to see the activity on the water surface. Very good composition. Congratulations!

Olá Ricardo,
Bonita composición con un encuadre que nos muestra este paisaje con el lago, que llena casi toda la imagen, salpicado por los bosques y las islas. Bien pensado dejar un trozo de foto para las montañas del fondo y el cielo.
Buena luz, y colores muy saturados, pero que dan un resultado muy bueno y agradable.
Las estelas de las barcas navegando dan un toque de acción y unas pinceladas de color blanco muy simpáticas.

It actually looks like a wide curving river because of the "islands". The colour is wonderful and the inclusion of the little boats adds scale.

Hi Ricardo - lovely fusion of blue and green, normally I don't like photos of artificial lakes because there is usually a bare borderline along the lakeshore that shows the different water levels, this one looks like it's at full capacity, so the unsightly line is not visible, well done

Hello Ricardo, this is a pleasant countryside shot. It is an attractive mixture of land and water. The boats add some interesting life and detail to the foreground of the shot and the wake of the further boat leads the eye into the scene well.

Oi Ricardo,

Esta qui tem um significado especial p mim pois me traz excelentes lembracas da minha infancia, tinhamos casa la e iamos todos os fins de semana. Tem seculos que n vou em Furnas e imagino que deve ter mudado muito, na epoca n tinham muitos hoteis por la... As cores e contrastes estao lindos, gosto de como utilisa as curvas da lagoa na composicao, so acho pena que a lancha esteja tao proxima da borda inferior. Um minuto mais e ele estaria no lugar certo na composicao.

I like the composition very much, specially the boats contribute a lot a give the image a good dynamyc sense.

The colors and exposure are good too.

And well, now living in Brazil, you have added a new location to my 'must visit' list.

Olá Ricardo,

A imagem está ótima, com todos estes meandros do lago, que dão muita profundidade à imagem. O dinamismo fica por conta dos barcos à motor e do esquiador sulcando as águas. Cores, luminosidade e nitidez excelentes.
