Jogja's Earthquake Photo

Photographer’s Note

What a terrible news struked the heart of Indonesians, when last Saturday, May 27th 2006, a series of earthquakes hit several cities in Jogjakarta and Central Java. Jogjakarta, Bantul, Klaten, Kulon Progo, Magelang, Solo were those suffered from major damages due to the quakes.

The quakes were started at 5.59AM, when most people were still on their homes, thus causes many people lost their lives. Almost 5,000 people reported to be killed and thousands others badly injured. Thousands homes and public buildings ruined and destroyed.

Indonesia's crying once again. I pray only for the people of the quakes victims to be strong and courageous. Hopefully, Allah will keep the souls of the losing ones beside Him. Hopefully too Allah will raise the living ones thus they can face the days ahead with new spirits.

May peace be upon us always.

The tragedy of one family, the destruction of this house, representing the tragedy of a whole country.

I don't even know what to say to you there. I wish you and your family all the best, but it seems so little to say in the face of something so big.

That's horrible what's happened in your country, which I visited also last year. This is a good reportage shot. My thoughs are also with all the victims and all the people who lost their home.
