Photographer’s Note

A friend has a ranch here in New Mexico. One day I went up for a Round Up. It´s the time when the young calfs get their branding. It might look strange for "cityslickers" but its normal daily life on a southwestern ranch.

Great picture. Reminds me of Marlboro men. It hurts me a little to see the burning fire at the edge of the stick, and specially the calfs' eye.

Good Capture. Alot of people don't understand the life of the Ranchers. You have done a great job catching the daily life right here. From a Fellow New Mexican Well Done.

The "rolling" eye on the litle calf shows his fear. You caught that well. I always think that scens like this looks a bit crule, but i understand the need. And i know that it is probably not as bad as it looks. The pepole working in ranches know what they are doing and tehy do it fast, it is just so far away from my own culture. It is intrestng to see a "live" picture like this. A very nice daily life pic.

That looks painful! Good documentry style shot showing what i thought was an old fashioned event; branding. The flames are bright and draw the eye. I wish you hadn't included the 21st century car.. Great shot though.

Looks like it should- that's the way we do it all over the west. I imagine if I saw a city with a million people, my eyes would look just like the critter shown here. Good shot, I'm going to add it to my theme of "Cow Country", if you don't mind.
