Photographer’s Note

Here you can see the garden in front of the 'Cemitério da Saudade' (Cemetery of the Longing). This cemetery was founded in 1860 by german lutherans because it was forbidden by the law to bury protestant people together with the catholics (the Roman Catholic Church had and has yet a big influence in Brazil).
In December, 2nd 1872 this cemetery became a public place when here was buryed a slave known as Gertrudes.
