Photographer’s Note

Townhall in Zielona Gora, a medium-sized city in Western Poland. The name litterary means "Green Mountain" and it may refer to the city's history of wine production.

Poland is more well-known for its vodka than for its wine, yet we do have some local wine production, especially near Zielona Gora. According to historical documents there were vineyards in the region as early as in XIVth century. The city even has a festival to celebrate grapevine harvest, and it takes place every year. Recently, the EU officially granted Poland status of a country that can sell "wine" produced from its own vineyards. Unfortunately, I haven't had an opportunity to try the wine, so I cannot report on its quality.

The reason it is possible to produce wine in this region is that in general climate in Poland gets milder when you move towards the South-West.
