Photographer’s Note
Shot from the observatory deck of the 88th floor of the JinMao Tower, in "PuDong".
You can see the "Huang Pu" River which separates the two Shanghai : "PuDong" (literally "at the east side of the Pu") and "PuXi" (literally "at the west side of the Pu").
As the two parts are completely different (lifestyle, architecture, history...), one good question that you may ask yourself is if you prefer PuDong or PuXi.

Hello Pingu. Superb point of view and composition. The curve of the river gives a sensation of a photograph taken with a wide angle. The light is ethereal, filtering through the clouds. A touch of Blade Runner atmosphere in it. Great work.

Hi!
It's a very interesting panorama! I particularly like the atmosphere created by the clouds and the sunbeams light that reflects into the river. Very good point of view!

Hi Pingu,
great shot. You captured Shanghai with an extraordinary sky. The clouds look like silver and the Huang Pu like gold. The highlights are the sunbeams above the city and the Oriental Pearl Tower to the right.
Kind regards,
Roland

Hey Keo,
I have a similar image of this magnifiscent view of Pudong and Puxi, taken when I stayed at Grand Hyatt Shanghai, same tower as JinMao just a few floors below. You got a wide angle of everything here, the expansive rivercade, I can see the flow of river barges and the impossing structure of the Oriental TV tower. A vast landscape of two different districts. I like this shot better than mine(not posting it :/), this has a "dramatic" tone, love the part where the light shimmers, atmospheric effect gives this images a different feel.
Hmmm...yes these two areas are entirely different in terms of character, history and architecture. I would like to experience seeing history of old Shanghai, its narrow lanes, closely packed old houses, experience the hussle and bustle of Puxi, the architectural styles of Colonial, Gothic, Baroque, Roman , Renaissance, British, French and East Indian. Glipmses of this area along the Huangpu River makes the Bund famous. While opposite the river you'll see Pudong racing towards the future with its high-rise office towers and hotels! I like seeing both the old and new in Shanghai! If I want to see more cultural and ancient history of China...Beijing is houses many of these treasures. China has so much to see...call this as an adventure...I'm overwhelmed! TFS

JHCris

Hi Iv! You posed a good question. I think for photography purposes, I prefer Puxi, since that's where you see the old Shanghai, there's more 'action' there. Pudong is picturesque as well, but then you later get tired of shooting all the lights/structures. This is a very good shot, I failed to go to the Jin Mao Tower last time I went there. You've shown us a great top view of Shanghai. I just wish it wasn't so cloudy. rgds.
