Photographer’s Note

We were participating in the Youth Hostel's National Himalayan Trekking Expedition to Sar Pass(14000 feet) in 2003. There had been heavy snowfall that year and so the trek became a classic example of how snow offered challenges and added adventure to an otherwise moderate climb and converted it into a tough one.

I shot this when we were climbing to Nagaru, our highest camp at 12500 feet. We were traversing a snowfield and you can get a feel of what we did if you look at the arc shaped path behind the last man in the picture. The snow had started to melt and so the route had become muddy and slippery. Most of the people climbed with their hands supported on the mountain slopes all the time and everyone was asking the same question... "When will this climb end???"
