Photographer’s Note
I arrived in Melbourne yesterday. As we walked along the canal which cuts through Brighton I noticed these small tiles on the ground. Each one was a brief reflection of some-body's connection to the river. Memories of events, recounts of personal relationships with a place which some encounter everyday, and take for granted. I enjoyed getting a sense of what the canal meant to different people of the city; glimpses of how ones neighbourhood can leave a lasting impression in the most random of ways.

What an excellent idea! It elevates the everyday and turns it into a cultural piece of work. Your focus depth is perfect- you get to read enough of the story to wish you could see more. I like how the stones are scatterd around- but I can't help but wonder if it would have been just as strong of a result if you left the picture vertical. I really like it anyhow. Ooh, another thought- black & white high contrast might make this pop. Well, great capture!
