"The Cegléd Calvinist Great Church
The church designed by József Hild, built in 1835-1870 and later altered is the biggest Calvinist church in Central Europe. The foundation stone was laid in 1835, the church was consecrated in 1871 and later altered in 1895-96. The dome was destroyed in a fire in 1936 and rebuilt in a taller form.
The church received a new electronic concert organ in May 2002. The new organ with 4 manual pedals and 63 registers was built by Péter Albert, an electric engineer from Miskolc. The sound character of the organ perfectly suits the needs of performers playing baroque or modern music.
Since the opening concert in the Great Church, regular concerts have been contributing to the vivid music life of the city.
The church building, which dominates the image of the town, seats 2400 persons. The twin-towered façade has a projecting porch with a tympanum supported by four Ionic columns. The frieze below the tympanum bears the inscription:
"Come unto me all of you"
