Photographer’s Note
The view from the veranda of the guesthouse where we stayed for the 2 days we spent in the Golden Gate vicinity.
The lacework you see is called “broekie lace”. Translated, it means panty lace. This cast iron lacework was very popular here in SA in the late Victorian era. I find this rather amusing. Everybody was dressed oh so prim and proper, but the verandas were flaunting lace panties. How scandalous! LOL Suppose they had to express all those suppressed desires in some way, eh?
I'll put all these pics together in a travelogue soon.
PP: cropping, sharpening, slight colour enhancement.

Beautiful framing and silhouette of the filigree. Nice symmetry - except that there are two breaks in the middle - is this a composite photograph then? By the way, this kind of lacework I've also seen in houses in Australia and New Zealand, I suppose from the same era. The shadows in the mountains make the picture beautiful btw.

Beste vir 2004, Sue, I like the Broekie=lace frame, I might even crop off the two half arches, leaving only the centre one, but hat is really another photo.

I would have tried to angle this shot to get the summit in the centre frame. The lace makes a nice frame, & I agree with the other posts that tighter cropping may have strengthened this image.
