Photographer’s Note

The windmill in the picture is now guest accommodation. The view from the balcony over the reed beds is beautiful and a great place to listen out for Cuckoos in Reed Warbler nests. The view would once have been over the sea but in the last 200 years the area has become silted up and the sea is now @ 1km away. Not surprisingly the prosperity of this once important trading post with the Low countries also diminished but its legacy is a very pretty village and some impressive former merchant and commercial buildings.

crisp image and beautiful scene. amazing there was that much silting to change a village from a seaport to grasseslands. i like the high horizon here and the windmill adds a lot of interest.
