Photographer’s Note
This tree was a surprise, somewhere along highway 18 in the countryside east of Big Bear city. It is an astonishing sight if you're not expecting it; bewildering and funny in some ways, wasteful and destructive in other ways, I suppose the mix of reactions is very individual.
I have read that in June 2004, the Sierra Club removed all the shoes, but they have begun to bloom again since then.

Reminds me of a story on the news here in the UK about a couple who had just bought a house in a nice rural location.And everyday odd shoes appeared at the end of their garden for no apparent reason.The tv cameras showed a big pile of shoes at the side of the road.They set up a camera and caught a speeding car throughing them out from the window.Funny for its irrelevance thanx for share.
