Photographer’s Note
Tanneries
Morocco is famous for producing high quality soft leather. It is recommended that only those with strong stomachs visit the tanner's quarter, close to the Karaouine Mosque, which despite its odorous reputation has become one of Fez' main attractions. Visitors can ascend to any one of the terraces belonging to the surrounding leather shops that look down on the fascinating tanners' yard, honeycombed with vats of dye and piled with skins, and although there is no need to pay it is expected that you will at least look around the shop afterwards. The reason for the bad smell is chiefly because guano and pigeon droppings are used as part of the curing process.

This place is always very impressive by its colors!
Very good and instructive to see how these men are working.
Very difficult I guess.
I remember also the very hard smell there was!

Impresionante ¿verdad?

Hola Jose,
Tanneries are indeed characteristic of Moroccan cities and your good overlooking PoV as well as the excellent note document them well, the sun seems to have been hard here but we can well see the differences in color tones, well done !
Saludos,

Bonita escena. Buen trabajo!

Hola Jose. A very interesting photographic subject - a good repetitive element provided by the colorfully filled basins, and the composition is greatly enhanced by the people working and moving in this unique environment. Good instructive notes, too, I learned a lot by looking at this posting of yours.
