Photographer’s Note

Here is another post from a Lanten tribe village located close to Luang Nam Tha. The Lanten women wear black dresses with pink tassles. You can see these on the girls in the background. The women wear thick silver necklaces and shave their eyebrows. I didn't see many men wearing traditional clothes, but this little boy appears to be dressed traditionally.

Very nice photo. He does not look lonely to me. his hair, clothes and facial expressions are very interesting to look at! I recognize some of the girls from other photos you have posted. Nice composition. I like that they are all on different distances from the camera. Creates nice depth. JP

Emily, a greatgroup of kids...love the eyes of the boy in front. I do feel, though, that you could have either used a smaller apperture to get a deeper dof or used a more selective focus on the boy in front to make the background blur a bit more to make a nice out-of-focus bokeh. The present figure does neither and as a result loses some of its apeal. Otherwise great!

Lovely shot! Laos is a wonderful place with many great sights and you have captured one here!
Is there perhaps some vertical distortion to make them all seem thinner and taller than they are?

I like the composition and natural feeling of this shot - they are nicely scattered in a picture, but they don't stare at you
I also like colours of this shot
Only pity for the sharpness - esp. that it can easily be improved (see my workshop)

How many picture of those kids do you have, they are all beautiful. I remenber a portrait from you of this young boy on the forground. Now you have captured all the band and they are all lovely.

and i love the composition in triangle starting from the center.
light is beautiful and each children has a different expression.

A very strong image. Effective use of shallow depth of field. There is a lot going on, which would normally be a bit distracting, but in this case, the boy's eyes are so powerful the viewer is compelled to focus on him. Plus the other children are averting their gaze, making a nice contrast between them and the boy. Nice work.
