Photographer’s Note
When I woke up this morning my girlfriend asked me, 'Did you sleep good?' I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.'
'Steven Wright'
Milan people like to read i noticed...
an example; when we took the metro downtown. Five stops. There’s an older woman taking a seat across us. Fur coated of course. She’s carrying a small handbag. I look away. When I look bag she is reading a big red book. A thriller of a least 600 pages. Where the frekin’ hell did she hide that thing I wonder. I look around me in the metro and see that at least 3 other people reading books the same size. I always try to fumble an old small pocket novel in my pocket an am often annoyed by the inconvenience of too much luggage…

Hi Jorrit!
I like the contrast between the old man looking at the books through a magnifier(?),and the young women rushing along after his back.
You must have been close to the subjects with your 21mm...

Maybe I should say that "I miss some sharpness but the idea is interesting..." but in fact that picture is puzzling me.
How come there was a French board there in Milan? And did you mean "Sartre" or did you write "Satre" to bring confusion? :o)

I remember this funny scene close to the castle ;-) You captured this man very well and it's incredible he didn't stop reading since you were so close...and yes we like reading I always have a book in my bag too (when I haven't got a good company of course!).

Hello Jorrit, mice market shot, Jorrit, the advertising board in the distance gives an old feel, and the old gentleman stresses that feeling even more. You have been very close, but he does not give a damn about you, but seeing him using the magnifying glass, he might be partially blind and deaf as well.
Looks like a nice book stall, but as you say they read a lot, they will probably take well care of their books, as well.

ok, have nothing to add to all the statistics other than it sounds more macho when measured in centimeters......
as for the image, ineresting street documentary with good debth and lots going on, but it needs more contrast....

Hi Jorrit,
A very good picture,
perfectly composed and easy to read like a "Robert Doisneau" image.
the man with the magnifiyng glass is amazing ,and the young mum and the background make a perfect balance.
Congratulation.

i will admit, a large part of the reason i love this pictures is that I too love books, and the book stall caught my attention in the tumbnail :D but besides the beautiful looking books you also have a wonderful contrast between the two people in the shot
