Photographer’s Note
This is the baroque city palace "Erbdrostenhof" in the old town of Münster, a city in the north of Westphalia. It was built from 1753 to 1757 by Adolf Heidenreich Freiherr von Droste zu Vischering. Many members of this family were church dignitaries and also Adolf Heidenreich has been capitular, the "chief officer" of the prince-bishop of Münster.
The very particularity of this building is the fact that it had to be built on a very cramped building area in the old town. In order to "squeeze" an impressive and prestigious palace with three wings and a court of honor in the midst of the old town, the master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun realized an architectural stroke of genius. He positioned the building with three wings and a triangular court of honor diagonally at the rectangular building site.
By this he still today drives the photographers mad because the cramped premises make photos of the whole facade nearly impossible ... ;-)
Well, I tried it ...
In map view right hand you can see the very special positioning of this castle very well. You also can see it HERE.
In workshop you can see some details of this palace.

Hi Frank,
This is really a long way from the beach ;-) but nevertheless very interesting. I like the different views you have posted here, with the two WS:s (and the link). This is really beautiful architecture. You could only wish that houses were built in this way today...
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hello Frank,
The beautiful architecture of the palace makes an interesting backdrop for this lively composition. The people walking past plus those sitting at their tables make for a very pleasant atmosphere. The detail in the architecture is well rendered. Interesting and useful note. Greetings from a slightly milder Charente-Maritime.

Hi Frank,
A difficult building to photograph, but a very interesting one (as shown in the attachment).
From Raleigh, where the "cats and dogs" have taken down a lot of leaves- and even some branches. Sun comes back tomorrow. :-)

Randy

Hallo Frank,
What a beautiful palace, which you have succeeded to catch as a whole in this picture in a tight place. Pleasant atmosphere. The WS photos nicely give detailed information. Thanks also for the link to the areal view, which clearly shows the peculiar form of the palace.
Greetings,
Lasse

Hola Frank.
Magnificent baroque palace with very interesting architecture, captured very well in a daily life composition with good amount of action with the people crossing by, difficult POV with the backlight against you. Your WS are very well captured and very good pictures. Good work.
Have a good weekend.
Best regards.
