Photographer’s Note

Tonight the first of an occasional series of photos from a country without many photos on TE - the pacific nation of Vanuatu.
My first offering show people in the capital, Port Vila, waiting at the wharf for an inter island ferry, cargo vessel. Vanuatu only has a small population that is scattered across quite a few islands so inter island boats are critical for getting around. As you can see from the photo the vessels aren't very modern, not do they offer much comfort.

Hi Ian, yes you're quite right about Vanuatu's under-representation on TE. I can't work out why as it's such a beautiful country. Nice scan from the negative, the reflections are excellent. Given the recent ferry tragedy in Tonga, this photo depicting the old passenger boat is very topical and telling. TFS and have a good one, Lisa.

Hi Ian,
With all the talk about the boat people, this image is very current.
Good daily life capture, the passengers waiting on the wharf, all their baggage around them waiting to board looks terrific.
I love the ship, what character it has. I wonder what the long white poles on the round bases are used for, interesting.
Good look at life in the Pacific Islands.

in effects there are few photos of this beautiful country. I hope to be able to see of it so that to also know this place for me distant. seem me correct to begin with the Island trader

Nice presenation. I like the series of verticle white posts, poles etc. I also like all the people lined up to embark the trader. Good framing.

A great photo to show daily life in Vanuatu - the old boat, the colourfully dressed local people with their bags and buckets - an informative photo. As you note Vanuatu is not the most represented destination on TE. A good scan. Tfs, Marlene
