Photographer’s Note
This Holy Mandylion Church was inaugurated a year ago, on the John the Evangelist Day, 9 October 2008. It is located in Horlivka, large industrial city of the Donets coal mining Basin (Donbas shortly). The biggest Ukrainian chemicals plant, public corporation “Concern “Styrene””, was the sponsor of the construction.
GPS coordinates: 48.30400 Lat, 38.05900 Long
This shot of Ukrainian newly build church has much in common with another my shot of a new church in Russia.

Good morning Sergiy!
It's a long time since I commented one of your photos! But I had them in mind all the time, as I was making the inventory of ALL the Ukrainian churches on TE! I have called them all "Sergiyade". I hope it's all rignt with you!
In the process, I learnt a lot about Ukraine and its churches! Looking at your photos, I was amazed by the beauty of the brand new churches!
Now, I understand that so many religious buidings were destroyed during the "Dark Age of the Russian empire: Soviet Union period", as SaidQirimli put it. And as soon as Ukraine became independent, they started rebuilding, probably in part thanks to the enormous riches of the Orthodox church? I don't know how long people will remain religious though in this materialistic world!
Anyway, these churches are just beauties! I love this one with its perfect white, gold and red against the perfect blue sky!
The Bysantine style also appeals to me very much!
However, during my cyber-travellings in your country, I also found old wooden churches, which I found very appealing. Are there any in your part of the country too? If so, I would love to see them in your gallery!
I have also read your new introduction, and see that you are visiting your country very methodically (Luhanska is missing! Is it the next one to come?), sportively and very ecologically! Congratulations on the distances covered on your bike! Well done!
Thanks to all that, I am learning much about Ukraine, which was left out of my education. When I was at school, no countries behind the "Iron Curtain" were studied in geography lessons! Well, Better late than never!
I wish you a very good (sunny , I hope) Sunday!
Marie Louise.

Hello Sergiy,
I'm quite fascinated by the churches with the golden onion shaped domes!
The rest of the architecture is pretty special too, with this massive tower construction...
The wonderful light makes the building show it's very best way!
Greetings,
Pablo -
