Photographer’s Note

Nieuwpoort
municipality of Liesveld (population approx. 9,585)

The name Nieuwpoort is derived from the Latin ‘Nova Portus’, freely translated as the ‘New Harbour’. Nieuwpoort is one of the smallest Dutch fortified towns and was founded around 1200 by the Lords of Liesveld and Langerak. Nieuwpoort had a part to play in the functioning of the old Hollandse Waterlinie. In the 17th century, on the recommendation of Prince William of Orange, Nieuwpoort was given ramparts and canals in a fortress with six bastions. A pleasant walk along the fortifications can be combined with a visit to the Oudheidkamer [Antiquities Room] in the town hall, where the history of Nieuwpoort is relived. Nieuwpoort, with its protected townscape, is a part of the municipality of Liesveld, together with Groot-Ammers, Langerak and Streefkerk.

Hi Jaap,

A very lovely town with funky trees and doll houses that seems to come out of a cartoon. The puffy clouds also contributes to this surrealistic aura.

Your angle creates a lot of depth and f/18 aperture provides the sharpness through and through.

Smells like spring!

What a bautiful sight. That's real cosiness. This small black house - incredible dimensions! By the skillfully chosen point of view the depth in this picture is amazing - but I think the colours are a bit too saturated here.

Des couleurs incoyables , et pourtant naturelles , pour une composition riche et de toute beauté . Le fait que les arbres n'aient pas encore de feuilles renforce l'attrait de l'image : les troncs noueux sont superbes . Et de très jolis nuages pour couronner le tout .

Many beautiful colours combined in this pleasant scene. The reflections also doubles the attraction. is looks like a very typical Dutch place. I am quite surprised to see these large windows on the front of the houses, usually without any curtain, allowing people walking by to study everything inside. A very special custom! You won´t find this in Sweden...

comme tu le disais au sujet de ma dernière photo, il y a des cieux dans le sud des Pays-Bas qui ont inspiré des peintres et qui depuis des siècles, coiffent canaux et moulins. Des couleurs vives ici, bien traitées, fabuleuses. Une vconstruction d'image un peu plus rectangulaire, mais ca colle très bien ici.

Ohhh!!!
I'm in the middle of a modern fairytale landscape where you can expect anything too happen, a dog in pajamas coming out from the door or a pink monster suddenly showing it's face above the surface of the canal. it has those fantastic fluffy clouds, the newly cut tree branches and the colors that makes it slightly surrealistic.
