Photographer’s Note
It’s an old adage, but they say in Scotland, ’If you don’t like the weather, just wait 5 minutes’. It was a bit longer than 5 minutes, but would you believe this image was taken only 2 hours after this one?
As it was raining when we left Trumpan Church, we went to the Skyeskyns exhibition, where you get a free guided tour of the tannery and a demonstration of the traditional tanning methods for sheepskins. (We already did the Talisker Distillery on another wet day!) When we came out, this was the weather, and this scene was just down the road from the tannery.
The location is Loch Bay on the Waternish Peninsula of the Isle of Skye. I was going to do a map reference, but I can’t find exactly where I took this.
Small point of interest - the cottage we stayed in also had a thatched roof.
Message for JY....... Little Bo Peep has found her sheep! ;D

une belle ambiance orageuse dans cette photo et un contraste des couleurs malgré une lumière pas terrible, mais avec ces moutons le paysage ressort calme et serein, beau boulot

Salut Kath! Of course I believe you ... and it gave you incredible moments when the clouds finally moved and let the sun shine. Such a lovely scene with the sheep relaxing between showers, sun and clouds, this great mix that makes the green grass even a little greener. Cute the farm shed in the back ... Yes this is romantic, I can see a candle light dinner when it starts to rain again ... I put this on my wishlist of things to do :))) Have a good night, Barbara.

I have been there long time ago, and I still remember a beautiful island.
as usual your landscape is simply spendid, because of the light and your accurate framing.

Hi, Kath. a very good composition with the fence on the left guiding the eye towards the cottage. The sheep add to the rural side of the place and contrast nicely with the grass. The bay acts as a good divider between fore- and background, where the crest stands out against the sky.
Have a nice evening,

Hello Kath,
Une vue presque folklorique de cette île. Il y a dans cette image tout ce qui fait la beauté de cet endroit. Les moutons, les petites maisons en pierre et la mer en arrière plan. La lumière est un peu dure ici.

Good layering into 5 separate horizontal elements with the old stone cottage & sheep providing a superb focal point. I like the reflected blue skylight, in the lake/loch. Tfs!

A very attractive composition with all the elements nicely placed in the frame. The diagonal placement of the loch brings a sense of dynamism to the image. Very good light and colours; fine clarity.

Truly a well achieved composition... I think I'm beginning to understand your style at seascapes: a good care and attention to the harmonious proportions of land, sea and sky... the cottage is very well positioned and the white clouds are the ideal crown for this bucolic scene. Foul weather have surely its disvantages but when the sunshine breaks through you may have beautiful results like here.
I've been to Skie long ago, with my wife and daughter... the time for decent pictures was really too short! The rain lasted far more than 5 minutes!!!(:-) But anyway we enjoyed the atmosphere and solitude of the Highlands...
Have a nice weekend,
Donato

Hi Kath,
Straw roof barn, sheep and stony landscape. Highland landscape at it's best. somehow exposure looks darker on the right part.
Pessimist in me would say 'If you like the weather, just wait 5 minutes.'

A great composition. The cottage with the thatched roof is a jewel. In Norway the saying is "there is no such thin as bad weather, there is bad clothing." Unnecessary to wait! :-).

Hi, Kath -
We say the same thing about the weather in San Francisco! Either wait a few minutes, or go across the street.
Nice capture of light and shadows, very peaceful scene, all of the elements in proportion, and great range of blue and green colors.

Hello Kath,
The weather is very changing into Scotland, as in Montpellier in this moment:) the advantage of the cloudy passage, it is that they make it possible the sun to light as with a projector. This hut, the grass and the ewes are very agreeably illuminated and revealed. Excellent framings and realization. Cheer.
Have a nice day.
Cordially.

Namaste Kath,
not only for five minutes, I can stay here for years. Great place. The greenery are nice here. You have gained sufficien light just after 2 hours of the cloudy situation. Framing is great, keeping the house in left and leaving some place in foreground you did a marvellous job. I think this green foreground is created here lovely contrast with the rest. Tfs.
Have a nice weekend.

Hello Kath,
That is so true of the weather on the coastal regions!
This is a beautifully composed shot with the cottage nicely placed and the fencing creating a natural lead towards it. I love how it snuggles so warmly into the hilside, just like the moorland farmhouses around here.
A fine combination of contrasting layers, sharp details and good saturation.
Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)
We are setting off tomorrow. Be in touch when we return. :-)

Hi Kath,
Lovely old time image with the traditional thatched roofed cottage and the long hair sheep in the yard all seen along this charming loch.
The lush green pasture contrast brilliantly with water and sky.
This place looks much like it did a few hundered years ago.

Hello Kath,
Patience which paid !!! The light on the landscape is very beautiful. Good framing with this small thatched cottage on the left which balances the image well. Here the sheep are parked but when I went to Scotland several years ago I remember that with my car I was to pay attention to each turn not to crush one of them !!! But believe me, I did not drive quickly, especially on the left… Thank you Kath.
With all my friendships and a very good day,

Hello Kath
Indeed two hours is a long time for the British weather! Very nice view of the cottage and the sheep, who seem to enjoy every bit of the sunshine they get. Almost shot at mid-day, if I may extrapolate from the shadows. Do any make any single malts from the water of this Loch?:-) I don't think so! But I know that Skye is renowned for its spectacular scenery, the most dramatic and challenging mountain terrain in Scotland, & these pictures of yours are proof enough
Best Regards
