Photographer’s Note

Good Morning Everyone,

Following my previous posting of the Second World War Memorial at St. Malo, today, I am posting a shot which shows the relics of one of the gun turrets. This is on the same site and has been left to help create an understanding of what the memorial stands for.

There were many families around when I took this shot and although there must have been a great temptation for young children to play at firing the gun, that did not happen. There was interest, there was discussion but there was also an unspoken respect.

This memorial is on the headland overlooking the ferry port of St. Malo.

Just a day after the 70th anniversary of war being declared this is a very appropriate post. As usual an image with high tech quality and natural colours and a sensitive note.

le sujet n'est pas très esthétique et rappelle de mauvais souvenirs mais ici il est très bien photographié avec ce ciel et ses nuages blancs qui donne tout de même un peu de gaieté à cette image.

Fine shot Bev, and a great note. I think it is wonderful that thee artifacts from our violent past command respect even from those too young to understand and at the same time I think it a shame that we can't have as many monuments and remembrances of our glorious past though come to think of it we really can't be seperated from our baser side...

This is a nice shot of this historic structure. The angle of the shot works well allowing us to see more than one side of the structure. The lighting and colors are great and the photo has excellent sharpness and detail.

these remains of the Nazis are terrible and I am afraid that this bunker will survive the next 1000 years. But your image of this memorial is excellently composed and the pleasant colors make it look less ugly. I also like the title! TFS!

Hello Bev! Excellent note! Many times it needs not many words but you know how others feel just by looking at each other. I was further up in the Normandie visiting such places and I was touched by little groups of old men standing around and you knew that they were involved. Slowly they become fewer and soon enough nobody will be around. Thanks, Bev, we have to remember, it is more essential than ever. Best regards, Barbara.

belle photo de cette casmatte comme on dit chez nous, un enorme blocaust tout et beton armé qui résistait au coup de canons.
Bons détails qui montre bien les impacts qui ont désagrègé le beton.

Hi Bev,
Those were terrible dark days of the previous century.
A century where many lives were extinguished in their prime.
The memorial stands out in rich detail against the vivid blue sky.
Lets pray we do not see its likes agains.

this photo is a very good example of what must be photographed - and remembered! not just ancient churches, buildings and other historical objects. This is part of the mankind's history, but unfortunately, many tend to forget it now...
Very good photo, in many aspects. And, imho, you were lucky that it was a sunny day :)
