Elephant in the city Photo

Photographer’s Note

Traffic in Phnom Penh is very chaotic, but luckily the Cambodians drive quite slow.
Occasionally you can see an elephant like the one you see on the photo, guided by its handler,
I was wondering about the elephant's feet which can be damage by the hot asphalt, when I noticed 'he' was wearing slippers.

In ws, you can see another picture taken few seconds later.

Il a l'air pacifique le mastodonte. Curieux pour nous occidentaux de la voir sur la route mélé à la circulation. L'image est nette et bien cadrée.

That was a great flagrante indeed. The sandals (slippers) sound as a good help for the feet of the elephants by walking on the hot asphalt!

Sont maniaques les Cambodgiens ils mettent des patins a leur elephants pour pas abimer la chaussee !
Bon cadrage serre pour un max de details et le contexte est apporte pour le drapeau

Un éléphant dans la ville, c'est pas banal. Mais avec des sandales, c'est carrément extrordinaire. C'est un genre de véhicule pas facile à garer, mais qui a beaucoup d'allure. C'est presque un éléphant rose. Superbe et originale image, parfaitement réalisée. félicitations.

Very funny shot with an elephant walking on the street with slippers. I think this could be published in NG magazine. You were very lucky to be there in the exact moment that this huge and strong elephant was passing by in one of the streets of Phnom Penh. Very well captured.

Wonderful shot of an unexpected sight. You have captured excellent detail in all the folds of her skin. I love the slippers she has on to protect her soft feet. The WS is good too as it provides more context, but your first choice of this one is the best.

Hello Marilyn,
This poor old elephant must really miss his natural habitat in the jungle. The hot tar in a city environment is form of animal cruelty.

The picture is well shot, extremely sharp and good light. The close up shot enforces the impression of its size.

Je me demande si ce n'est pas l'éléphant de Wat Phnom qui rentre du boulot... Il remonte Sisowath tous les soirs... je dois dire que je l'avais vu de nombreuses fois, mais n'avais jamais remarqué ses "sandales"! Vraiment marrant!
Un bon résumé de Phnom Penh, avec le drapeau, un bout de tuktuk et de temple...

Hi Marilyn,

Good idea to show this large animal full size at this picture. I think that some people will call this domestic animal a pet, but I think that won’t be a reason for the toss to ban this elephant to treknature. I’m wondering if he(she) is looking sad or satisfied.

Je suppose que l'on doit lui céder rapidement le passage à cet éléphant guidé par son cornac. De plus, je remarque que le mastodonte possède des sandales (je suppose que c'est fait pour éviter de blesser ses pattes).
Excellentes prises de vue rarement rencontrées sur TE !

Très original ! Un éléphant chaussé de sandales.
Enfin Un élephant ça trompe énormément, celuic-ci est d'Asie vu ses petites oreilles, dommage qu'il n'a plus ses defenses.
J'arracherai bien les dents au cornac.

je retrouve là mon animal fétiche, laissé il y a quelques jours du côté de Dak lak (à la frontière cambodgienne)
et j'ai bien rigolé en voyant ses "sandales" dédiées à la ville: ça je ne connaissait pas ! super!!!!

Eh oui, c'est une photo bien exotique! Belles captures pour la photo principale, comme pour le WS! Merci de nous faire remarquer ses chaussures! On aurait pu les rater sinon!
Je me demande: C'est sûrement un éléphant domestiqué! A quoi servent-ils?
Voit-on toujours en Inde des éléphants promeneurs de maharajas?
Si tu regardes ma galerie, tu verras celui que nous avons à Nantes, sauf qu'ils lui ont mis des oreilles africaines!...
