Photographer’s Note
Hoover Dam, originally known as Boulder Dam, is a complete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the U. S. states of Nevada and Arizona. When completed in 1936, it was both the world's largest electric power generating station and the world's largest concrete structure. Currently, it is the world's 35th-largest hydroelectric generating station.
Located 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada, is named after Herbert Hoover, who played an instrumental role in its construction, first as the Secretary of Commerce and then later as President of the United States. Construction began in 1931 and completed more than two years ahead of schedule, in 1936. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985.
Lake Mead is the resevoir created behind the dam, named after Elwood Mead, who oversaw the construction of the dam.

It feels strange. I guess my last contact with you was some 8 or 9 months ago, you know, 6 months the military, than the psedo-collapse of our "elite" TE society etc etc. Now it feels better to come back to my old, busy days of critique writing :P
Interesting structures here, as i am used to see the dam itself, mainly as a collapsing element in expensive disaster movies :D
You found an original place to visit, say, if i were you, i'd prefer the ocean coastline in that heat of july...
cheers,

Hello Benedict,
An original point of view to show the water capture structure of the dam in fine clear colours, well contrastign with the blue water.
Well done.

Hi Ben,
very interesting construction. I know the main purpose of the building was something really important but the fact is that it has a very attractive architecture. It's a pleasant integration with the surrounding nature. Well chosen angle. There is a nice on the rocks that looks the extension of the platform. Well done!

Carlos
PS: I was in NY for a couple of days...I think I have some shots for posting later.

Hi Benedict,
Good POV to show this dam and its lake. It seems with low level of water, but, ok, the photo was in July.

Wonderful wide angle, Benedict. Interesting contrast between those imposing structures and the beauty of the landscape around. Makes me thing of a scy-fi scenery. I'm trying to return here after a long absence.
All the best,
ricardo

Hi Benedict,
Fascinating composition. The photographical distortion is interesting and the curved horizontal line formed in the left by the concrete of the dam seamless continued in the separation line between dark and light in the rocks is a strong point of the composition.

Hi Benedict,
I like the POV you selected, I don't know the purpose of the towers but they are quite dramatic rising from the turquoise waters.
Here's another POV that my son took after paddling upstream to the dam.
