Photographer’s Note

I was in the pleasant company of Santo(Skippy007) this time when we drove to Brighton Beach at the south east of Melbourne. He had posted a similar view with 3 birds, one on each roof which make the photo really unique. Mine has 2 but dont forget there is a third one on the ground :)).

The strong blue colour of the Union Jack impressed me but unfortunately the shadow of the beach lamp post falls right on its facade and left me disappointed somewhat. Nevertheless I included this beach box as the FG feature.

What I enjoyed most after this shot was the cold Aussie beer on a warm and sunny winter day.

Hi Alfred,
Both you and Santo were really entitled to some cold beers after taking these very special pictures of birds and these attractively painted beach houses. Good pictures, both of them!

This is a nice shot of these colorful beach huts. The angle of the shot is great creating a diagonal through the shot with the huts. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.

Hello Alfred, It must have been the soft sunlight that produced those attractive colours, I thought I was lucky but yours are just as attractive. It's always interesting to see how different people view the same subject, I like your inclusion of the Union Jack & you did manage to capture the the three painted seagulls even if you missed out on the other crow ;-))). The shadow to me is no distraction & I don't think it detracts from the image. The one thing we saw the same & agree on was a pleasant day & a nice cold Carlton beer. Thanks

Hi Alfred,
I'm getting very sick and tired of you blokes having cold beers with out me, bugger the photography, bring on the Carlton.
You know I think the shadow actually helps to give the image more depth, particularly on the deep blue of the front of the hut.
One thing to point out to you, this isn't the Union Jack, it is almost the flag of Australia of which the Union Jack forms a part. What is missing is the fifth star of the Southern Cross, (Epsilon) which is the weakest to the naked eye. Maybe the person who painted this facade might have had a few too many Carltons.

When I first saw this shot I thought - wow these black birds are always there on the roof. But then realised you were with Skippy007 when he took the shot also :)) Yes - I agree with Peter [phwall] that it is a very nice shot enhanced by the shade which deepens the blue of the (not Union Jack) flag :)
Aussie beer (carlton) well taht is another subject :/

Seeing this photo for me is quite funny as my husband, Toni, has posted one from the same view point. Yours of course has the birds which make it different. I love this place and the winter light brings out the bright colours plus you don't get bothered by bathers.

Hi Alfred, nice spotting here with an interesting composition. We New South Welsh men are very jealous that you and dear Santo can sneak off for a lovely day shooting by the beach and finishing off with a cold beer. The tones are fantastic and I would not have noticed the shadow of the lampshade had you not drawn it to my attention. I like the row of cabins and their lively tones. The flag at the left is in fact OUR flag with the southern cross to the right and the large star beneath. The Union Jack (much to my bewilderment) being part of ours is located in the top left-hand corner of the flag. TFS and have a wonderful week, Lisa

Real you have trained the ravens well, stone crows.
Also to the Belgian coast get we the same boxes. Excellent perspective and splendid colours.
Very well picture, sharpness and clarity are superb.

Hi Alfred. Lovely delicate, candy colours beyond the blue of the Australian flag.Nice diagonal POV. Whether two or three ravens, they make a strong presence.The light is just right, not that strong so as to make the shadows too pronounced. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Alfred.
I recognised this batch of beach boxes instantaneously from the thumbnail - the 'Union Jack' (Aussie flag??!!)told me it was Dendy St beach; I used to live about 500m from the beach. You took this shot in glorious winter weather and with a pleasing angle of view. What distinguishes the picture are those two stark, black ravens, no doubt scavenging for food amongst the litter bins. The shadow of the lamp is not at all a distraction.
Just sent you an email about a possible TE get-together in Sept! Wondering if/when you will be in Melb.
