Photographer’s Note

Today is National Day in Belgium!

This date was selected in 1890 (a law was voted) to commemorate the day when Leopold de Saxe-Cobourg, first King of Belgium took the oath, on July 21, 1831.

In the city of Liege, flags were hanging here and there, still showing some patriotism and some attachment to our monarchy.

No fireworks here, but a great party with music and friendly atmosphere in the Parc d'Avroy (next post).

I enjoyed browsing your gallery and though I loved your wide range of shots, I chose your most recent one just because it demonstrates your ability to see art in the most ordinary places.
You have created a wonderful abstract picture of repeating patterns and limited colours but with a real wow of a focal point.

bonjour marianne,
je suis un peu en retard sur le coup, mais la photo demeure interessante par son cadrage , ses lignes bien marquées et la repetition des fenêtres.
le drapeau situe la photo et apporte une note coloré a l'ensemble .

I'm not a big fan of tilt, but I think this is one occasion where it works well. The appartment windows make an excellent graphic image and the tilt gives that extra 'tension' which adds to the image's success. Added to that the Belgium flag was an extra gift for you.

Présentation originale pour souligner votre journée nationale; l'approche abstraite et géométrique mettant en scène la répétition des carreaux est efficace. Le drapeau est bien placé. Clin d'oeil accrocheur.

Good morning, Marianne! We do that too, on our national day, and especially in less urban areas you might see a lot of Swiss flags hanging from the windows decorating the houses but also tables and what not. Great "flip" to the side, love the lonely flag up there, a special detail that makes this picture work so well. Our national day is on August 1 ... will see what I have for you guys but normally it rains, this is pretty standard ... Have a great morning, Barbara.

Bonjour Marianne.
J'aime le tilt qui met en valeur le graphisme de cette façade. Le drapeau vient interrompre la répétition des fenêtres et il est ainsi bien en évidence.

Hola, amiga Marianne,
un toque muy creativo en este encuadre inclinado, donde el ángulo cerrado sobre las ventanas del edificio nos ofrece un magnífico grafismo. Y el toque de color de la bandera belga es un detalle que da mucha potencia visual al conjunto.
Me gusta, por su sencillez y su vitalidad.

This picture takes a different dimension thanks to your decision to tilt it. I doubt whether it would have had the same impact straight on. The graphic element is of course excellent here, with your country's flag. Well done!

Bon usage de 'tilt' qui fait une composition intéressante de cette facade pas trop remarkable.

Notre drapeau Belge fait une injection des couleurs, une trace de fierté - bien qu'il n y a personne dans le photo. Intriguant.
