Photographer's Note

La Rambla is a street in central Barcelona, popular with both tourists and locals alike. A 1.2 kilometer-long tree-lined pedestrian mall between Barri Gòtic and El Raval, it connects Plaça Catalunya in the center with the Christopher Columbus monument at Port Vell. The name rambla means, in Catalan, but also in Spanish, an intermittent water flow, and is derived from the Arabic 'ramla' which means 'sandy riverbed'.

This is a view on the Rambla from the Columbus Monument (Monument a Colom).

With this title, which may be taken literally here, I want to refer to the attitude of some tourists who prefer to avoid places crowded with tourists and like to go "off the beaten track". As much as I know where it comes from, in my opinion if tourists want to go somewhere it usually means that there is something interesting there to see. If a place is interesting –usually people have already built a road there. But I guess people may have different preferences. In any case Rambla is certainly a "must-walk" place in Barcelona.
A piece of advice: if you want to buy a FC Barcelona T-shirt in one of the shops alont Rambla, keep in mind that the guys selling there like to bargain. I was not aware of that. I got the labelled price down by 50% but if I knew that from the beginning I may have lower it down much more. Just like in Arabic countries.
