Photographer’s Note

Not something you see every day! This struck me as rather funny somehow; I'm curious how the little red car actually got in this small public park. The tracks probably did connect to a rail network at some point. It's called the Red Car Museum. The car is an authentic Pacific Electric Right of Way car (No. 1734), a rare examle of this type, built in 1925. It was once a movable machine shop sent out to fix problems along the 40-mile Pacific Electric Los Angeles/Newport Line. When it's open, guests are allowed inside to watch a video showing what the ride would have been like during operation, between 1904 and 1950. There's quite a lot of memorabilia as well; some interesting old signs, tickets, pins, photos and other items have been donated by people who have private collections. The museum also features rare photos of early Seal Beach as well as Native American artifacts. If you want to see when it's open, you can call (562) 683-9174 for hours. It's located on Electric Avenue near Main Street, next to the Mary Wilson Library.
