Photographer’s Note

Well, I've been gone for a few days, my wife and I went to Memphis, Tennessee to enjoy some music in the rain. We left last Thursday, that's when this image was captured. One of the first places we went was Beale Street. I am drawn to the blues, I cannot leave if the blues are playing. My wife had to pry me away from Beale so we could eat dinner at the restaurant of her choice that evening. Being that it was the only evening we would have the chance, I capitulated and left. We came back later, though. Couldn't not come back.

This is a group, or at least part of the group, called "The Soul Outsiders". They were pretty good, they had the tourists (and locals) dancing in the rain. It was like that just about everywhere we went. It was raining and people were dancing. They love to dance down in Memphis. Probably because they love to drink down in Memphis, too... Well, at least I did - and I was not alone.

This is just one shot, I only took about 500 photographs in the four days we were there. A lot are going to be tossed - it was a low-light weekend, and I was also shooting people. They do the damndest things when they move around, you can hardly ever predict exactly what will happen next. In my case, I have to get lucky to get a good shot of them.

So, I hope you enjoy my first from Beale. There will be several more to come - feel free to let me know if they suck or if they are good or even if they just leave you unimpressed. I'm learnin' here, so I'm open to suggestion.

This one was cropped and sharpened and I tried to remove a little noise. Still a little foggy, though.

Have a nice day - if you want to get in that Memphis mood, listen to Marc Cohn sing "Walking in Memphis", it is truly a good description of that place.
