Cell Block-Eastern State Penitentiary Photo

Photographer’s Note

The Delaware Photographic Society had a field trip to the Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadephia, Pennsylvania, which is a "National Historic Site" being preserved as a "stabilized ruin". It's a photographer's dream, even on a cloudy, sometimes rainy day. This is a view into the two story Cell Block 4, built in 1833, from the top of the stairs.

I hope for you that it is not an insider's view that you are showing...
Very well composed with all these lines leading to the end of an infamous corridor. Light well managed with a range of colours from fitting dark to brighter ones.

Great shot that puts out plenty of feeling.
I could hear the doors clanging shut and some squeaking open.
Your shot also captured 'pain, anger and sadness'

Hi Lois, on the scale of inhuman looking environments this ones looks as if it should score pretty highly - I will be in Philedelphia late September but I guess there won't be so much time for me to see things this trip - I have worked a little in a prison as an artist but it was nothing like this one! A stark dark place which certainly looks as photogenic as you say.

Bonjour Lois,
une vue qui montre bien que les pénitenciers ne sont pas aussi confortables dans certains pays que dans le mien par exemple.
Une photo judicieusement transformée en b&w avec beaucoup de perspective.
