Photographer’s Note

This is Elephant Rock at Currumbin beach. It is situated where the Currumbin Creek meets the ocean.

Currumbin is a photographer's paradise with spectacular views north and south. The gentle surf and small rock pools make the area's beaches popular with young families. Fishing is popular in the picturesque Currumbin Creek

Currumbin has a unique character with respect to other beachside suburbs – it's where the bush meet the beach, an area of vegetated coastal dune areas and parkland. Elephant Rock and Currumbin Rock enclose a popular surfing beach.

This was taken at sunrise and this surfer had climbed on the rock to check out the waves before deciding to give it a go. As I sat watching the sunrise the surfers started to arrive, they climb over the rockpools to a gap in the rocks and launch themselves into the swell and then ride the waves into the mouth of the river. It looked a bit dangerous but they seem to have the launch down to a fine art.

Hi Jude, wow I couldn't believe this was in Australia. I love sillhouete shots and this is one of the best. That 40D sure is working for you here. The dusky colours in the BG are perfectly exposed and the inclusion of the person for scale is just the icing on the cake. Great job, congratulations, Lisa

cet elephant de rocher et cette personne en ombres chinoises sont de toute beauté avec ce ciel magnifique. Ces jolies couleurs du ciel et ces ombres attire le regard et on a envie d' agrandir de suite ta vignette.
On n' est pas déçut et je l' aprécie beaucoup.

Very nice work, the silhouetted rock is wonderful, love the person standing there, especially the relaxed pose. He gives scale to the rock and also adds a lot to the shot.
Beautiful colours, the graduated sky changing from pink to blue is beautiful.

The presence of a human element....picture perfect..!!!
First i saw Australia, then i saw some boulders so i thought Devils Marbles, but no, an other location were i never heard about, but what a great shot you deliver here. You know i love light, perfect light and you found her wonderful light. Look at that gradient of colours in the sky, all colours of the rainbow are inside....truly wonderful.
Nothing to pick here, you did an excellent job in creating this image...well done..!!!

This is a great one - the small man and the huge huge rock is certainly great photograph material.
And those colours in the sky... well it all just adds up to a great phoot!
Must have been an effort or sorts to wake for sunrise. WOrth it tho!

Hello Jude,

Just last week i saw a photograph of Lion Rock in New Zealand. The two image complement each other, but yours with a person in it, and all depicted in silhouette is astonishingly dramatic. It's a exquisitely conceived and flawless implemented shot.
