Our Lady of Vladimir Church Photo

Photographer’s Note

I believe that today, April 18, is a notable day for many TE users.

The International Day for Monuments and Sites was created on 18th April, 1982, by ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and later approved at the 22nd UNESCO General Conference in 1983. This special day offers an opportunity to raise public awareness concerning the diversity of the world’s heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as to draw attention to its vulnerability. Each year, ICOMOS proposes a general theme, this year’s theme being “Heritage and Science”. In 2008 the theme was “Religious Heritage and Sacred Places”. I hope my today’s post could be considered as some reflection upon this theme.

The church in the picture was initially built as a wooden hermitage for a monastery in 1700. In the church an icon of Our Lady of Vladimir was saved. In 1859 a new stone church was built at this place. In 1934 it was closed under the soviet regime. Only in 1987 the church was reopened and reconstructed.

All these beautiful Ukrainian churches you are showing us on your gallery!
This one really looks magnificent as a bichrome against the blue sky! Very good POV with the light decoration of the tree on the right!
I believe you know papagolf21; well I don't know who created the term "papagolfade" for photos of beautiful French churches on TE, especially taken or shown on a Sunday!
I think the term "Sergiyade" could be created for the photos of beautiful Ukrainian churches!

The church stands out in an almost 3D appearance, with sharp fine details in the architecture...
