Photographer’s Note
On a Sunday morning at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples. For the most part the birds at Corkscrew are not afraid of people so they are perfectly comfortable staying very close to the boardwalk, like this one.
This is full frame with absolutely no cropping whatsoever. 400mm f2.8 Canon lens, no converter. Yes, this bird was very close to me.
Thank you Farah for directing me to whatbird.com. At first I thought this was a cormorant but now I know it's an anhinga.

Hi Greg, great to see bird shots creeping in amongst the baseball players. Nice tight crop on this guy and so sharp. He looks very much like a Darter that we have here in Melbourne. cheers, Steve

He Gregory,
I really like this shot. Great timing to capture this beautiful bird like that. I like the details on the wing and the light on the birds head. Great Work!

Hi Greg,
I can't believe you call yourself a Floridian and can't tell a comorant from an Anhinga!!!! :) By the way, it's easy. Comorants grunt like pigs.
Anhingas have to stay in one place drying their wings, because they have no oil in the feathers. That allows them to fish under water.
I like how his face and right wing are hit by the light. I never noticed they have red eyes. I guess I can't get close enough :) By the way, if you grunt like a pig/cormorant, birds will look around and at you. It doesn't scare them, but makes them curious.
It's a good shot of a difficult subject. Should have more attention, but there's no accounting for taste.
Farah
