Photographer’s Note
The rift between the old and the new within the Dubai environment continues to expand on a daily basis. With massive development something has got to suffer,,,,unfortunately that means that to some extend the ways of old do get lost. Authorities within the United Arab Enirates continue with their struggle to ensure that the traditional ways of the Emirates are not lost amongst the multi-cultural development within their country.
Whilst down at one of the newly developed hotel beach areas I was happy to find a local Emirate making his own business by "selling" rides to the tourists or expats who frequent this beach. Sure this is not the same as the open desert countryside, but at least the sight of these amazing animals is not foregotten.
I loved the bright colours which adorned these camels, as well as the traditional dress of the man.
This image clearly shows the contrast between the massive, expensive develpment of the Palm Jumairah in the background, and the camel handler on the beach in the foreground. Added to the contrast was the odd expensive speedback bobbing in the cool waters of the Arabian gulf.

Hi Grant,
Great catch! The contrast between the modern city on the background and the old beduin way of life on the foreground is just great. The light is just perfect and really brighens up the camels and the man.

Bonjour Grant,
Un contraste intéressant. Des situations qui disparaîtrons d'ici quelques années .
La luminosité est très bonne et la netteté sur le premier plan est excellente.

Hi Grant
Interesting composition with the camels and driver in traditional dress in front of the speedboats and city in the background.
Nice sharp images of the camels too!

Hi Grant!
It`s now 25 years ago that I spent one night there. It was very intersting walking through the street seeing "middle age" mixed with the end of the 20th century.
Great shot with these camels in the foreground and a nice view at these many buldingsites at the oposite shore.

Ciao Grant!
Saluti, Nino.

Humorous yet suitable title! This is a great photo Grant. We can definitely appreciate the old and traditional way of life, now making its way in a modern and massive new reality. The contrast is tremendous and your note cannot be more thorough!
Thanks Grant!

hi Grant,
love the shot, you're right about the striking contrasts, it certainly adds appeal to the photo. but I have to say that what I like most is how the first camel seems to be picking out the best-looking customers :) superb quality, I'm sure it was not easy in what looks like a fairly harch light. excellent work, my compliments.
best,
Kristine
