Photographer’s Note
the sun and sky were playing tricks on us that evening; the sun would peek through the clouds stage-lighting a spot here or there; we would rush to direct our cameras that way and boom... the light would be gone.
however, i managed to catch this teaser light on the dune here though. i am always impressed by andean highland clouds: they seem so close that all i need is to stretch my arm to touch them...
background: volcán Parinacota (6350 meters) hiding in a cloud veil

Kristine has posted a clearer view of the famous volcanoe here.

HI,
what an incredible landscape...!
So absolute in colors... so essential, almost primordial!!!
Great!

Hi Kristaps,
Well elaborated composition under excellent point of view. The well saturated colors are attractive and keep our attention into the photo. This dune to the center gave dualism of image in relation to the volcano in the plan of deep. Good job. Regards, Consuelo

hi Kristaps,
I think one can sit down and enjoy a cookie while watching at this landscape.
I absolutely love the cromatic contrast of the lake water versus the burned tones of the volcan!

Just stopped to see what's going on at TE. So, you been to Chile, too! Superb contrast here, something every photographer enjoys. Excellent composition, I like the narrow strip of land/bog/vegetation/? at the bottom. Cheers!

Hi Kristaps.Striking contrasts with the dark water and the illuminated dunes. The cloud covered volcano (its missing peak) makes the land look compressed and stretched lengthwise. Fascinating land Chile. Regards. Klaudio.

Well seen and captured

Bonjour Kristaps,
une répartition plutôt inhabituelle des lumières qui semblent ne pas émaner du ciel. Cette terre lumineuse orangée attire de suite le regard.
J'aime ce ciel chargé et très nuancé, dramatique.
Regards.
Daniel.

Hello Kristaps,
A superb landscape under a beautiful sky well collected. A nice balance in the composition with differents plans well delimited. Good contrasts in the colours: the FG, the sea and especially the color of the island. A very good and nice photowork.

awsome landscape. The heavy clouds seem very rare outthere in the desert.
Great colors.

Wonderful fantasy world you two visited and the scenes you show us make that obvious. As always this is a great capture with fine color and detail and a well thought out composition. Love the notes too.

Hello Kristaps.
I thought it a strange title when I saw the thumbnail, but now I can see what you mean. It's an amazing landscape up in these mountains. So high, yet the scene is so flat. Lovely water and that strange 'biscuit' or 'cookie' of land. I like the moody sky above. Beautiful subtle colours.

Andrew

You and Kristine are bringing us awful fine presents...
Never seen a landscape like that! It seems that desert, snowy mountains and sea came together to please our eyes. The beauty of simplicity that only nature and a good eye can produce.
Well done, TFS,

Hi, Kristaps.
Made for everybody to shut up, sit down, and contemplate. THIS is why I love landscapes above anything else : their unparalleled beauty, as simple as that. Wonderful shot, TFS! Have a good day, see ya later.

cookie it is, surrounded by peppermint jelly. I quite like the simplicity of shapes, and the beautiful light adds a painting-like quality. the clouds feel really low, as if just brushing over your head. nice one.

Hello Kristaps,
Great play of light and colour (I love that line of yellow below) almost abstract, quite 'unfathomable'...if that's a word.

Cookie, strawberry, it must be the high altitude :))) Cool shot, very well thought over, okay you had to be fast, but still, you knew what you did. A little bit of foreground with the green stuff in the water, the round feeling of the hill in front, the almost hidden volcanoe ... and leaving plenty of space for the clouds. All is very round and in good harmony, very good work. Happy Saturday ... Barbara.

Hi Kristaps,
Astounding symmetry and textures to this beautiful mountain desert that posses such unique colors.
The golden algae blends perfectly with the turquoise lake that in turn contrast brilliantly with the desert sand dunes.

Hi Kristaps,
What a fscinating capture this is!!!! I had seen photos of the pangong and tsomoriri lakes in my country. The landscape looks pretty much the same(beauty probably has the same definition everywhere), with the rugged mountains as the backdrop. The color of the lake is just amazing.

Hi again,
some people say we need a blue sky for a good landscape. I don't agree with that. I think you can have a great deal with the cloudy sky. Your play here is successful. While the sky brings all the dramatism out, the shiny hill in the foreground tells us the sun is doing its part above you. Nice shot!

Carlos

Hej Kristaps. It's fun to see how two people standing so close to each other in all subject have such different expression in the way of showing the landscape. here the high altitude has an other focus the colors are a bit lighter and the comp more strict, flat, a bit like abstract art

Hi Kristaps,
The meaning of 'sand cookies' is altered indefinitely after posting this photograph! That is one big sand cookie for sure and despite the light playing tricks with you there still is enough light to make it an attractive shot!

Me again ;-)
Again a wonderful shot although here the cloud is less dominant, but now the dark water and sandy looking hill creates the colour and contrast balance what makes it special.
The strip in front what lies in the water is a small but important detail....i like such parts a lot in landscape photography.
Have a nice day,
Henk

Hello Kristaps
If I am not mistaken, this might not have been taken from the same exact location/time as Kristine's second anniversary post...the light seems to be very different. The landmass on the left does get the cookie colour contrasting with the deep blue lake and the menacing shape & colour of the volcano beyond. The landscapes you two have presented here from Chile have all been absolutely mindblowing & has indeed opened my eyes to these natural wonders far away from my country.
Regards
Angshu
