Photographer’s Note

This is one of the silver lamps of the little Monastery of the Holy Virgin Mary in Palaiokastritsa, Kerkyra. (for information see the other pictures "Say a prayer for me now"/"Singing in the blue")
I've always been attracted by lamps, expecially the monumental ones in old palaces and castles. This one was shining in the dark aisle, enlightened by the sun sneaking in trough the open door, so I couldn't resist and shot it! I fell in love with the rich chiselling work on it's surface, gently touched bu the lateral natural light.

Hi Laura,

This is a very beautiful and fascinating object! If you hadn't explained it, I would have had trouble recognizing what it is. Do you know whether it was used with oil or did they put candles in it? Whatever it was, it must have been a lot of work to light it. ;o)
The shot has a nice symmetry without being "too" symmetrical (=boring). Nice light, too. There are only two minor points that I would change. The first one is the somewhat distracting signature - personally I would have chosen a more subtle colour, maybe one that is reflected in the picture. And second, even more minor, I might have tried to clone out that greenish object on the bottom in PP.

Una foto un pò insolita, dalle miniature non capivo di cosa si trattava, mi piace molto i dettagli illuminati con lo sfondo scuro.

Beautiful, very original photo, you had a great "eye" for this one! Excellent detail, that many wouldn't have "seen" the way you "saw" it, excellent framing and composition, fantastic light managment under dificult conditions! Congratulations!

caspita che foto hai fatto! POV geniale, hai giocato stupendamente con la luce e i contrasti. Le foto con lo sfondo nero, come i dipinti, del resto, mi hanno sempre affascinato. Hai fatto un eccellente lavoro, da brava fotografa quale tu sei. Complimenti!
